WIAC Games 1/26/08

I decided to stay off the road yesterday and take in the games via the internet. With live stats, radio streams, and video streams it’s easy to be lazy and stay home. It should be no surprise to me that I once again finished 3-1.

Osh 73 StP 61
I enjoyed listening to the Oshkosh radio broadcast for this one. The announcers did a nice job and they seem knowledgeable and excited about WIAC play. They brought an interesting stat, in the 80 minutes that these two teams have play against each other this season, Point has never had the lead. Oshkosh really had control of this game from the start. Jordan Johnson is one of the most underrated players in the conference. He is a terrific defender, we knew that, but he is now starting to prove that he can be extremely valuable of the offensive end too. He led the Titans with 18 points and 12 boards. Oshkosh did a nice job using all their weapons in this one. Point played without Pete Rortvedt, so that obviously didn’t help their cause. It also didn’t help that Hicklin was tossing up bricks, going 1-12 from the floor (1-11 from three). Oshkosh steps up and screams, “the conference title goes through us,” after this nice win.

Some interesting stats:
Osh out-rebounded Point 37-22
Point had 12 steals, Osh only had 3
Osh had 8 more turnovers than Point.

Plt 77 St 68
Combs warned Jeff Skemp about not doing any of his David Copperfield disappearing acts in the second half of the season and what does he do…disappears, only 2 points for the pre-season All American. He did manage to pull down 10 boards. Charlie Lohoff picked up the slack by having a MONSTER game. Charlie had 38 BARPS on 10-12 shooting. Plt cannot have Skemp putting up games like that. They were fortunate that it was against Stout. We have a new face for the Blue Devils, their leading scorer was Eric Hostetter with 20 points. I saw him play up in Superior and he seems like he will provide a nice spark for the Devils in the second half.

WW 86 Sup 55
I watched a lot of this game on iFan and it got crazy in a hurry. The score was 23-23 with 4:07 left in the 1st and WW went on a 14-5 run to end the first half. Needless to say, they never looked back and buried the Jackets into the ground. Both teams had most of their benches cleared with 8 minutes to go in the game. Stat of the game, 48 foul shots for WW vs 18 for Sup!! The lopsided foul calls created some fireworks as Dwight Hill and Coach Buchanan got tossed. You could see the frustration oozing out of all the Superior players as the game wore on. WW played a nice game considering they were without Josh King and Savage for this one. Matt Goodwin was almost unstoppable for stretches and Myles McKay stepped up nicely for the Warhawks. WW keeps the momentum rolling and Sup needs some time to regroup.

Lax 72 EC 65 I really want to start typing expletives about EC right now. I cannot figure this team out. They are the only team in the conference that I have no idea what they are going to do on a given night. I guess I am just going to have to pick them to lose every game and my winning percentage will go up. As usual, Tony Mane and Lil Smooth were the catalysts for victory for the eagles. Dan Beyer had a terrific game for EC with 38 BARPS. Ryan Shea had the worst game of his young career and only scored 2 points. Lax ties EC for 5th place in the conference. Interesting stat: EC had 18 assists to Lax’s 5.

From d3:

WW 86 Sup 55

Real story will be the fallout from this one. Buchanan ejected --- Hill ejected. Sup was out of control.
WW announcers said they were disapointed to hear the comments from Sups bench during play. Miller, in post game said Sup coaches were calling for their players to "just knock them down" also said there were several cheap shots taken. Miller said " I guess that's what they do up here"

SUP looked like a freshman intramural team. Not a good one at that. King for WW did not suit up.

WW wins by 31 while missing 20 ft's

1.) What's going to happen with Superior's ejections? Any possibility of suspensions? Was it really brutal and out of hand?

It wasn't brutal, but yes it was out of hand. Superior's players are not tough enough to be brutal . They looked and played just like they were being coached---like little children.

3.) Concerning a recent post, and I think it's a good question, does Whitewater really miss Jason Price?

ummm--- not at all--very easy question to answer

Wow, I didn't pick up on any of this while watching the iFan broadcast. I could tell Superior was frustrated/exhausted by their body language, but I couldn't see any of them getting dirty.

Seems like there is some conflicting opinions on this whole situation.

I think we need to send it to Judge Joe Brown and let him decide who was at fault.

Funny

The way it is going over there you may have to contact Brown.
