Happy New Year!
Well, the WIAC finished off 2008 with a bang going 21-4 against non-conference opponents since December 17th. The interesting part with that record is, three of the four losses were recorded by The ‘Ville, WW and Point.
Random thoughts:
Eau Claire: I still don’t know what to think about them. I saw them play against Northwestern on Monday and the game was not very impressive to say the least. Both teams looked like they were barely awake from the lull that the holidays can put players in to. Not sure why Shea’s minutes are down so much. He looked like he was limping slightly, but I could not see any reason why he couldn’t play more.
La Crosse: I was extremely impressed with them at St. Thomas and they could have easily won that game. Then they took care of business against another tough MIAC opponent, Carleton. Losing Brandon Brown hurts bad though and it will have to be seen how they do without him.
Oshkosh: A few days in the sun seemed to do wonders for the Titans as they were clicking on all cylinders down in Arizona. Matt Miller caught a case of fire down there as he put up some monster offensive numbers.
The ‘Ville: They suffered their first loss, which could be argued might be a good thing for them. They will be the team to beat.
River Falls: I don’t think anyone will be taking the Falcons lightly as they keep improving every game and don’t seem to be intimidated by anyone. They picked up nice wins against D2 Bemidji St and two MIAC schools, Hamline and Macalester.
Stevens Point: They are trying their best to be healthy and they will be in a familiar spot, near the top of the conference, all season.
Stout: The sun was kind to the Devils too as they picked a couple wins down in Puerto Rico.
Superior: See Osh. Is D Hill hurt? Hope not because that is the player that makes that team tick.
Whitewater: Just like their fellow contenders, The ‘Ville and Point, the Warhawks used the break to work out some bugs and suffered a loss in the process.
