StP 80 EC 60
Not much to say about this one. Point continues their dominance of EC and rolls to an easy 20 point victory. Point sits all alone on top of the conference at the half way mark.
St 63 Sup 54
Stout wins, Stout wins, Stout wins! The Blue Devils get their first conference win over a Superior team that just can’t seem to find their rhythm. D Hill, once again, sat out this game and his absence has hurt the team. Sup was consistently scoring 70+ points a game last season and to only put up 54 against Stout is unacceptable. Stout had a nice balanced scoring attack with 4 players all scoring 10+ points and they were burning down the nets at Johnson Fieldhouse in the second half, shooting 65%.
The ‘Ville 86 WW 78
The game of the night and maybe of the year so far lived up to its billing. The ‘Ville closed down the town for the night and managed to sell out the game for Orange Out night. Looking at the pictures it seems like the atmosphere was absolutely electric! Even the stoic Jeff Skemp showed some major emotion. More on him in a bit. I have not showed The ‘Ville much love in the predictions, but they have once again proved me wrong. It looks like both teams played excellent with solid shooting. Pvegas has already gone to Walgreens and got a poster made of Jeff Skemp showing Phil Negri the door on a dunk. For those of you have not seen the picture, check it out. Pretty sweet. Skemp had a terrific game and stepped up when the team needed him. I’m interested to hear what the deal was with WW shooting themselves in the foot. They cut the game to 2 and then proceed to get 2 techs and basically end the game. That can't happen. Congrats to The ‘Ville.
RF 62 Lax 61
Lax has been disappointing the last few games. I really thought they had a solid squad, but now they are on the outside looking in. Sup’s loss was RF’s gain and thanks to this win RF now sits in the playoff picture.
Not the best game I have seen. Both teams had stretches where they looked tired and out of sync. To the Falcons credit, they were down 11 with 10 to play and they reversed their fortune by coming back to win instead of blowing a second half lead.
Interesting box score, no one from RF scored more than 9 points. That’s a team effort. Lax on the other hand was the Tony Mane show. He was outstanding and he a shot to win it at the buzzer that came up a bit short. Tony also had a fun time talking with the crowd.
The only player not to score for the Falcons was Jesse Elling, but he was the hero of the game in my opinion. There were two different times during the game when Lax was making a run and RF looked tired and lifeless. Elling came in and sparked the team defensively and you could see RF’s energy level increase. Elling is going to be big for the Falcons during the second half of the season.
All in all, a nice win for the Falcons and Lax needs to hit the drawing board and make some changes. On a positive note, Lax has the most coaches in the WIAC so they should be able to come up with something.

It definitely was nice to see a more balanced scoring attack by RF. Voeltz has been getting pressured heavily on offense lately and it's nice to see others pick up the pace including their bench players.
I also have to agree with you about the spark that Elling brings to this team when he is on the floor. Based on the box score, he needs to play more than 8 minutes a game though! Think of what he could do for them if he played 20 minutes!
I think having the weekend off will be a good rest for this RF team as they come back to play Point and Platteville on Wednesday and Saturday next week. Those 2 games are going to be tough and they need to be rested. Go Falcons!
I'm hoping both games are on the internet in some fashion as I won't make it to either of them.
WIACBBFAN:
Yeah, I would not mind seeing Elling's minutes increase either. He is a much needed spark for that team.
The rest is indeed much needed by the Falcons.
Going to Point and The Ville back-to-back is downright cruel.
Man oh man, when I saw that you picked against The 'Ville AGAIN in a game that we probably should win, I was a little pissed. By the end of the game, it didn't matter. What an exciting game! The students showed up in full force and had to be placed in the only places left to sit: mingling in between the townies and right behind the WW parents.
The story on the double Ts... Before the play in question, Skemp threw down a dunk that got the home crowd loud. A few plays later, Goodwin drove down the lane, missed on his own dunk attempt but got his own rebound and drains an open 3. As he's headed down the floor, he turns to the student section and yells one of those 'no-no' words (i think it was 'F yeah!')and is T'd up by the ref. The second T was called on the WW coach Miller for his discussion during the tech free throws. Not sure about this one but my guess is he also used some 'foul' language. Those back to back Ts really took the momentum out of the WW comeback. About a minute before the double Ts, the Plt bench also got a T for Combs being outside the coaches box. That one didnt make sense because when the T was called, Combs was on the baseline side of the bench. I dont think the double Ts were a makeup call, but i could see how WW fans could argue that.
Also, loved the awesome media coverage of this game. If you have time, check out the live blog done during the game by the WSJ. Two madison TV stations were also there shooting video, and there were no less than 5 newspaper writers sitting at the media table taking notes. Could be a sign of the community taking notice to The 'Ville's success and the start of some momentum heading towards the conference tourney.
PS i happen to have a friend who works at Walgreens...the Skemp dunk is soon going to cover my front door! :)
Pvegas,
My apologies for not showing The 'Ville the love once again. They stepped up and took care of business, no doubt!
Maybe you can get Skemp to autograph the poster for you! :)
To PVegas,
Thanks for the support!
