WIAC Predictions 1/14/09

StP over St

This one is the lock of the night. Not much to say, it will be a nice game for Point to regroup after two hard fought OT battles on the road.

Lax over The ‘Ville

Upset of the night. Lax matches up great with The ‘Ville. If Merklein stays out of foul trouble, Lax will find a way to win it. It’s just a hunch I have. I think this one will be a nail-biter regardless and it should be fun to watch.

RF over Sup

RF begins a very important stretch of the season in terms of determining whether or not they will make the conference tourney. They have: Sup, EC, and Lax coming up. Sup needs D Hill back in the worst way. I would imagine that Sup has a run left in them, we’ll just have to wait and see if that happens.

Osh over EC

This is another important, Top 6, game for both of these teams. Both this game and the RF/Sup game are coin flips. Matt Miller seems to be the difference for Osh this season. If his shots are falling, Osh usually finds a way to win. These two teams are very evenly matched, I’ll give the Titans the benefit of the doubt at home.

Made it up to the RF at Superior game last night, 1/14/08. Falcons came out playing some great offense and getting good inside shots. Superior played an uptempo defense in the second half and the Falcons couldn't counter. In part Coach Berkhof needs to take a chunk of blame for failing to right the sinking ship. Elling, Johnson and Utke need to see more time on the floor. The senior Elling really sparks this offense when he is on the floor as he seems to keep the team running plays and moving around. As an on the ball defender there aren't many any better than him. Johnson needs more time as he is a deadly 3-point shooter. Utke, bad knees and all, can do it all on both ends of the floor. Another OT loss for the Falcons and it certainly was a game they needed to win in order to keep in the hunt for the playoffs. Need to hand it to Superior for their play in the second half and their ability to shut down the key RF offensive players. They obviously watch their films.

WIACBBFAN,

Welcome and thanks for the thoughts! Feel free to keep them coming.

It was another heart breaking loss for the Falcons. They have been on the wrong side of too many close games this season. They are young though and the future is extremely bright.

Elling is a terrific defender, you are right there. He is as unselfish as they come and he always does what is asked of him.

I think Utke has the potential to be a real special player in the WIAC. His injured ankle has hampered him a bit, but expect big things out of him, no doubt.

This game just makes the race for 6th place that more crazy.
